Passed away on January 24, 2008, at a Family Care Home, located next door to his sons home. He is survived by his three children Perry Fleming and Brook Fleming, who live in Kenmore, Washington and Brandy Fleming who lives in Madera, California. He also had two granddaughters, Savannah Quinn and Mayah Jaye. Jay loved his children and granddaughters more than anything in this world and was always there to give them his whole heart.
Jay Fleming was born July 23, 1947 in Ojai, California to John and Mildred Fleming. He was the youngest of four sons. The family moved to Fresno, California where Jay grew up, graduated from Fresno High and went on to work in the grocery business for Savemart and then on to Thriftimart until they closed. Then he went on to work for Laura Scudders for many years. In July of 2004 Jay moved to Upland, California and worked for the Upland School District until November, 2005; when he moved to Washington.
Jay was preceded in death by both his parents. Besides leaving behind his three children and two granddaughters, there are also his brothers Pat and his wife Leann, Paul, and Jerry and his wife Peggy, plus seven nieces and nephews.
With his quick wit and cutting honesty, Jay was always fun to be around. He was a hard worker and always stayed busy whether it was working in the yard, fixing things around the house or taking on extra projects at the elementary school, Jay strived to finish anything he started and always pushed to give 110%. Working at Sierra Vista Elementary School in Upland, Ca brought so much joy to Jays life. He made many close friends and loved working with the children who depended on him to be there for them every day and affectionately referred to him as Mr. Jay. He never missed a day of work.
Jay fought hard for three long years battling Cancer. He was very strong willed and always kept a positive attitude about his illness and tried to make it easier on all his children. In his last year he was able to spend quality time with his friends and family. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
His last words to his son were “Well, it's been a fun trip."
Thank you to everyone who has sent the very sweet words, everyone who attended the washington or Fresno memorial and thank you for everyones prayers through this hard time..
